The Unconformity that Doesn't Conform

In the Grand Canyon between the bottom horizontal sediment layer (the Tapeats Sandstone) and the underlying basement rocks can be seen an extensive horizontal plane on which all of the above sediment layers rest. But this planular surface isn't only located in the Grand Canyon; it is also observed throughout much of North America and even around the world. It is called "The Great Unconformity."

Note that below the Tapeats Sandstone and the Great Unconformity, the lower rocks, which are mostly igneous (volcanic) and metamorphic, angle upward; but have been abruptly sheared-off as if with a carpenter's plane.

What would cause this worldwide, very deep, uniform erosion? Secular scientists have a difficult time coming up with an adequate explanation ... hence the name "Great Unconformity."

According to the United States Geological Service, "Unconformities are gaps in the geologic record that occur when rocks or sediments are eroded away and time elapses before new deposition occurs. New sediment eventually forms new rock layers on top of the eroded surface, but there is a period of geologic time that is not represented. You can think of unconformities as missing “pages” in the book of the geologic record." In other words, the geology located below the "unconformity" doesn't conform with the new geology above that point. For an uniformitarian world view that only sees things by gradual long-term change over millions and billions of years, an abrupt change in the geologic record doesn't make sense. In their thinking, what we see going on today, geologically speaking, has been the same processes for billions of years. Therefore, we must be missing some geologic information at these abrupt transitions.

Genesis Chapters 6 - 8 provides the "missing" information. In these chapters, a planet-wide altering event occurred which had enough energy to account for a global erosional event. It also explains what happened to the eroded sediment and why it was deposited in layers in a watery environment.

Now many will claim that I (and other Bible-believing scientists) are the non-conformists. After all, the United States Geological Service, the National Park Service, and most universities all agree in billions of years and slow and steady processes. They, for the most part, are not willing to entertain the idea of a global cataclysmic flood that sheared off the geology of the ancient world. So, I guess I am a non-conformist. But, us non-conformists are in good company. One hundred and fifty years ago, another non-conformist insisted that Yosemite was carved by glaciers going against the prevalent school of thought espoused by the United States Geologic Services and their leader Josiah Whitney. It took a couple of decades, but this non-conformist, John Muir, was eventually proven to be correct.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 12:2, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

By the way, in his writings, John Muir quoted scripture extensively.

As for God, His way is perfect;

The word of the Lord is proven;

He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

Psalm 18:30
